Counselling Services

Manitobans who are concerned about their own gambling or about a family member’s or friend’s gambling, can access services free of charge.

Programs Available:

Orientation to Problem Gambling Services

This weekly group information session is for people having problems because of their own involvement with gambling, as well as for those having problems because of someone else’s gambling activities. An AFM counsellor provides information about problem gambling and describes the help that is available to prevent any further harm in people’s life from gambling.

Individual Counselling

Free and confidential one-on-one individual counselling service is for people having problems because of their gambling or having problems because of someone else’s gambling. Trained counsellors are available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Gambling Rehabilitation Group

Available for those who have been working with their counsellor for a period of time.  This eight-week program is held one evening per week (at AFM) to provide education and support for a lifestyle without gambling.

Continuing Care Group

These meetings provide ongoing support for those who have completed the gambling rehabilitation group or the residential program. The group meets weekly with a counsellor.

Telephone Counselling

Telephone counselling is available for people unable to meet in person with a counsellor. An appointment with a counsellor is scheduled, and a workbook with information and worksheets is sent to participants.

Residential Problem Gambling Program

AFM offers a 14-day residential program for both men and women. The program is located at the Parkwood Treatment Centre in Brandon and is available for problem gamblers no matter where they live in the province.

To access to any of the above programs and services, please call the Helpline at 1-800-463-1554 (toll free in Manitoba). For callers who wish to request interpretation service, please inform Helpline staff of your choice of language.
