Systems in Gambling: Trying to Make Sense of Randomness
It’s human nature to see patterns and adjust how we act based on these patterns. For example, if we see dark black clouds, we take our umbrellas because we know from past experience that it will probably rain.
Patterns can also happen in gambling (the roulette ball lands red, red, black, red, red, black), but the difference is that they happen at random and do not help in predicting what will happen next (see Independence of Events. Countless gamblers have tried to look for patterns and develop systems that would give them an advantage. Don’t be fooled: there are no patterns to be spotted that will help you to win in gambling.
